Acadia, formally styled the Most Serene Republic of Acadia, is a sovereign queendom in Taystra. Though historically ruled as a hereditary monarchy, Acadia functions as a parliamentary state with a reigning queen serving as symbolic and diplomatic head of state. The current monarch is Rayon Caream.
Once overshadowed by the neighboring Oda Empire and Vrasmus, Acadia has emerged as one of the most stable and influential powers on the Taystran continent.
Etymology and Political Identity
The title Most Serene Republic dates back to Acadian wars against Oda and Vrasmus. In defiance of foreign domination, the newly independent state declared itself a “serene republic that would never bow again.” The name endured as a symbol of sovereignty and cultural pride.
Over centuries, executive authority shifted increasingly toward parliament, while the Crown remained as a unifying and diplomatic institution. The monarchy is matrilineal; daughters inherit before sons, and wives before their male spouses. Current royal family, Caream was created through marriages with women from Oda's Fae courts.
While Acadians acknowledge that the state could theoretically function without a monarch, the institution persists as a stabilizing symbol of independence and continuity.
Government
Acadia operates under a parliamentary system composed of scholars, priests, merchants, and military leaders. Parliamentary seats expand periodically, reflecting population growth and civic participation. Many local officials maintain ordinary professions alongside governance duties, contributing to a bureaucratic culture that is participatory but often slow-moving.
The Queen does not possess veto power and governs in cooperation with parliament, religious institutions, and military leadership.
Geography and Capital
The capital city, Cecca, is one of the largest metropolitan areas in Taystra yet is renowned for its integration of nature and urban design. Cherry blossoms, sacred groves, and public gardens define its aesthetic, even as modern infrastructure and technological districts expand around them.
Cecca is prone to natural cataclysms including tsunamis and earthquakes. Rather than attempting to dominate nature, Acadians adapt to it, rebuilding as necessary and incorporating traditional architecture with contemporary materials and enchantments.
Population and Identity
Acadians forms range from small feline elders and bipedal tanuki to near-human or elf-like individuals with animal traits. Intermarriage between all these types of bodies is common and culturally unremarkable.
Acadian identity functions as an inclusive umbrella. Citizenship is relatively accessible, and those facing prejudice abroad for their heritage are encouraged to embrace their Acadian identity openly. However, a strong internal distinction between “Acadian” and “outsider” persists in cultural psychology.
Passing as human or elf may offer advantages outside Acadia, though within the country visible non-human traits are often considered more desirable.
Religion
The dominant organized faith is the Church of Alamina, to which Queen Rayon openly adheres. Official doctrine recognizes a syncretic form of Acadian Polytheism, integrating Alamina into the older pantheon of the Old Gods.
Folk practices, ancestor veneration, and regional rituals remain widespread. Religious conflict within Acadia has historically been minimal.
Technology and Economy
Acadia is a leader in residuum enchantment-integrated technology, supported by limited domestic deposits of residuum. Rather than focusing on maritime dominance, Acadia abandoned large-scale naval development in favor of spell-engine powered skyships, a decision that reshaped continental trade networks.
Skyship transportation and residuum-enhanced consumer goods represent major Acadian exports.
Acadian technology is known for its modularity and aesthetic diversity. Devices are frequently customizable and culturally expressive, with youth populations often leading adoption of new innovations. Technology Institute in Cecca collaborate with private provincial guilds to foster research and development.
Foreign Policy
Acadia positions itself as a soft power on the international stage. It maintains open immigration policies and frequently accepts refugees, strengthening its demographic and economic base.
Cultural Values
Acadians value honor, freedom, resilience, and individual achievement. National pride centers on survival, adaptability, and the preservation of sovereignty.
